CHEK News saved

On August 31, 2009 CHEK Television was set to close after 53 years in operation. Canwest said it was closing the station because it was a money loser. The employees at CHEK-TV managed to raise 2.5 million dollars in an effort to buy the station, but Canwest refused the sale. What followed was a rollarcoaster ride that lasted several weeks - the end result being the saving of CHEK TV. This video looks back on some of the history of CHEK as well as the events of the last few weeks.

Too bad CHEK closed on October 30 after the sale was terminated; I now watch TBS (formerly Family Channel) on channel 6.

Good report and great news. I just hope that the people of Vancouver Island support the station in the future. Saving it from closure is just the beginning. CHEK will need viewers' support to continue surviving. I consider CHEK to be one of Victoria's true institutions.
