On August 31, 2009 CHEK Television was set to close after 53 years in operation. Canwest said it was closing the station because it was a money loser. The employees at CHEK-TV managed to raise 2.5 million dollars in an effort to buy the station, but Canwest refused the sale. What followed was a rollarcoaster ride that lasted several weeks - the end result being the saving of CHEK TV. This video looks back on some of the history of CHEK as well as the events of the last few weeks.

  • @christopherve7alb really its more like a april fools joke lol

  • What a great story. Too bad CHCA had to close.

  • Now I'm not sure whether the close down occurs, or whether the programming occurs ever on.

    William.

  • Good report and great news. I just hope that the people of Vancouver Island support the station in the future. Saving it from closure is just the beginning. CHEK will need viewers' support to continue surviving. I consider CHEK to be one of Victoria's true institutions.
