Devil May Cry 4 is literally what happened before any other Devil May Cry franchise.
The Devil May Cry franchise goes backwards.
Nero is way before Dante becomes the main character.
So in that matter:
Devil May Cry 4 is: WAY before
Devil May Cry 3 is: Before
Devil May Cry 2 is: Semi-Final
Devil May Cry 1 is: Final

That is why in Devil May Cry 1, Virgil is dead
And in Devil May Cry 3, Virgil is alive.

In Devil May Cry 1, Dante has two amulets
And in Devil May Cry 3, Dante has 1 amulet.

@Anon1376642 itsdmc 5 3 1 4 2 the 3 is supposed to be a prequal to 1, in 5 dante is the youngest in this game and its been officialy said 3 is before one and 2 is supposed to be last ( or non cannon because its not the same writers)

@johney13 No it's DMC2, DMC3, DMC1 and DMC4. If you have looked at the trailer for "DMC5" you know that dante is a punk/emo kid, and then in DMC2 he converts to full emo. Throughout the rest of the games he regains his sense of anything and becomes a decent devilhunter (humanbeing in other cases).

It is understandable that he goes emo knowing that his fate is to save humankind for like 2000 years in his father stead, you know to rebell a bit. But then he snaps out of it in time for the 3rd one.

Lol, some people are confused with the order. Um, I'm not completely sure, but I believe the order is... DMC3, DMC1, DMC4, and then DMC2. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong? Lol.
