How to transform a great LEGO model to a unique experience? Just add LEGO MINDSTORMS!
Actually NXTifying the wonderful LEGO 10212 set (Imperial Shuttle) was a challenge, but I'm really happy of the outcome.

The interior of the Imperial Shuttle (including the mechanism) has been fully re-engineered.
What has been added:
- One LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT Brick (the brain!)
- Two NXT Motors for the Stabilizers
- Two NXT Color/Lamp sensors to simulate the Neon Engines
- One HiTechnic NXT IR Receiver to trigger and control action
- One PF Medium Motor and on mini Linear Actuator for the cockpit
- Two PF Light pairs to illuminate the cockpit

Programmed using NXT-G (the official LEGO MINDSTORMS programming software)

Action is fully automated and can be triggered using a common PM remote control device (Ch1/Red). However, it is also possible to control separately each one of the added functions:
Ch2/Red : Left Stabilizer Up/Down
Ch2/Blue : Right Stabilizer Up/Down
Ch3/Red: Cockpit Open/Close
Ch4/Red: Color Sensor On/Off

Special thanks to Costis and Dozia for supporting my dreams!!!!

Thanks to Bazmarc for dropping the idea a long time ago ...he is the first one that has ever NXTified the Imperial Shuttle!!! That's official!!!!

  • Better than Bazmarc!

Did you use firgelli cable for connect PF motors to NXT, or PF extension wire + NXT converter cable?

  • @egolegoque No I do not have firgelli custom cables so I have used the old -well know- option. Of course managing the long cables and the extra connectors within a tiny space was quite a trouble (especially since I had to leave some room to access the USB port and to fix the dorsal stabilizer).

    Best,

  • VERY COOL !!!! i build my Shuttle with Power Functions and remote controlled..but not finished....maybe the next month i will upload my Video...have you think about a retractably Landing Gear ? i know by myself how difficult it is...so again respect man ;-)

  • @Toyshansolo ...and thanks for the comments! I am looking forward to see your approach now!

  • My only question is how come the blue lights at 0:42 aren't symmetrical? The left one is only one stud away from the center white block, and the right side is two away. Just curious.

  • @kovacs88 Hmmm! Both sensors are absolutely centered behind the “NEON Engines” structure. However, the LEDs of the NXT Color Sensor are not centered (it is a multi-sensor that can be used as a light sensor, color sensor and LED lamp). Reflection is also altered from the fact that the blue neon surfaces are consisted of horizontally placed transparent 1x2 tiles and vertically placed transparent 1x2 brick...

    Thank you for your comment!!!

  • AMAZING

  • very,VERY,VVVEEERRRYYY!!! NICE!!!!

  • Thrilled to see you're still making videos, NeXTSTORMING!

  • Any chance of uploading plans for building?

  • @NeXTSTORMING Oh, I know the sensor you're talking about. I didn't think you would mount them differently since you're creations are always flawless. This thing is beautiful though. I've made some pretty cool stuff myself, but never in such a compact, clean package as you manage to do. Can't wait for your next creation.
