@Lfdjake91 It was pretty rare that they would have been interested in having one during Backlund's reign though. He wasn't very well-respected amongst insiders, but Backlund was insanely popular.

@mindbeyond In the wrestling magazines of the time, it was said that the referee was confused as well with both wrestlers wearing black trunks.

This shows how much respect the McMahons had for Greg Valentine. They practically gave him the WWF championship here....without actually giving him the title. The disputed finish is a show of respect.
