After figuring out the wiring and gettin the thing to run rather nicely without an exhaust, here is what is now happening. Huge amount of lopping and occasional complete cuts of the engine. Now trying to figure out what the specific problems are. ANY HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED :)
I live in Germany currently so I'll try to list what I remember...keep in mind, the car sits with being started sometimes (battery disconnected when not running)
Symptoms:
Now there is some type of slapping sound like a cylinder, however never had that sound before being stored for 5 months.
Headlights weren't working, now they are by some miracle.
Idle is kinda rough also when opening the throttle it takes a second.
Sounds like the turbo is almost cutting in and out regardless of engine speed.
Now power is intermittent to ECU (green light on sometimes, obviously when it runs) but was not a problem earlier.
Also, red dummy light on battery gauge is always on and always has above 14V (should be ok when idling) but gauge increases with engine speed.

My thinking is a vacuum leak, however after using the "Spraying engine cleaner near holes" technique, haven't been able to locate one.
I also think it might be a bad ground, but that doesn't explain the problems while running, due to the ECU fully losing power.

  • Hey did you ever find out your problem. Reason why I ask is because I'm doing the very same thing. I just need a turbo exaust manifold and i can drop in my engine. Are you. Running the correct ecu for this engine. I'm dropping in a 82 zx turbo moter in my 77, check put mine on here. Also can you use a 82 non turbo transmission and my non turbo 77 clutch with this moter?

  • Sorry I haven't been on here in a while.

    Didn't figure out the idling problem. It runs at about 700-800 rpm during initial start, then falls on its face after about 2 minutes. I'm thinking the computer and a vacuum leak are causing terrible idle. I definitely had an exhaust leak off the manifold to turbo connection (hence the tractor like sound; fixed that issue)

  • What do you mean by Oil Pump Position? Its immobile but the Motor is very intermitant with the Bad Running problem
