He's right, people born in the 90s just have a wrapped view of content creators because they grew up getting it for free in the birthing days of the Internet. Humanity is selfish in nature that to have something they've been so easily able to get for free to be harder to get that yes they'd fight against it. But, as he's said, everyone gets paid for their work, why are content creators different?

This is SO true. Being a composer, I feel so fed up when a company wants music "for free, in exchange for exposure/experience" We are undercut by Amateurs, so true.

Modern author's and programmers are not 'most people'. Ellison was using examples of adminstration workers, retail, etc whose occupation (in most cases) doesn't entitled them to royalties to things they did a decade ago. That's why I said comparing himself and other authors to joe blow off the street doesn't work.

That's Harlan Ellison in a nutshell. In fact I think that is pretty much how Ellison describes Ellison.

It's exactly Ellison's style of PR. He has learnt what works for him. Being hard-nosed, and having a reputation for being hard-nosed, is what got him his success. Others may have rolled over and "played the game", but have they been as successful as the old guard like Ellison? Unless you're a suck-up plagiarist like JK Rowling, I'd suggest not.
