Bishop Walker Dinner 2009

The Africare Bishop John T. Walker Memorial Dinner, in memory of Bishop John T. Walker, is the nation's largest annual fund raising event for Africa. This years event highlighted Africares work of Combating Malaria in Africa.

Each year, the Bishop John T. Walker Distinguished Humanitarian Service Award is presented at the Dinner to an outstanding citizen who has dedicated himself or herself to improving the quality of life for the people of Africa. The 2009 Bishop John T. Walker Distinguished Humanitarian Service Award will be presented to acclaimed musician and humanitarian, John Legend. Mr. Legend has worked tirelessly to end poverty in Africa through his Show Me Campaign. He has also worked with college students around the country to raise awareness of the effects of poverty in Africa, providing ways for students and others to get involved through his Poverty Action Tour. His selection underscores the important voice that a new generation brings to all of our efforts.
