So for the better part of the last year I have been touring with the Missoula Children's Theatre and their adaptation of "The Little Mermaid." The way the company works is that each week we arrive in a new town, hold auditions, and cast around 60 local children in an hour-long musical, which we teach them and they then perform. What's really neat is that although we are in the show with the kids, they have the lead roles and do most of the work.

This number is one of my favorites, as it involves the Seahorses. The Seahorse part is designed for children age 5 to 7, and is quite simply one of the cutest things I've ever seen. If you don't think this is cute, you have no soul.

This is one of the best Seahorse groups I've had on the road. This video is from a dress rehearsal we had in April 2008 in Spruce Grove, Alberta (yep, in Canada).

  • This is comcing to my town this year. Any tips on what to expect for a grade 7 girl who wants to get in? I can sing very well and I love to perform. I didnt get in last year :(

  • So, the Missoula Actors at the audition will say at the audition they are looking for three things: 1) a loud and clear voice; 2) big, expressive bodies & faces; 3) people who listen and follow directions. That honestly and truly is what they are looking for. So I would say go in, do those three things to the best of your ability, and have fun. Be especially careful about talking when you're not supposed to, because that tends to be a pet peeve of a lot of the tour actors. Good luck!!

  • Thank you! Just one question. In the play, do you have to hit really high notes? Cause I dont have that kinda voice or else it will kinda crack or go quieter.

  • None of the notes in "Little Mermaid" are high. A lot of girls act like they are but they really aren't (other shows are higher). So don't worry. Just go in and do your best :-)

  • I remember doing this! Wait... I did this with you!!! You came to Bow Island!! :D

  • I was a sea horse in this play [[2007]]

  • LOL this one was my favorite missoula play! I was Gil in my schools production in Murray Utah! Just got finished with the Missoula's "The Princess and The pea"... I still think the Little Mermaid was better, and Gil will always be my favorite character!

  • I'm Delia right now! We perform Saturday =]

"Just imagine, a whole new world we've never seen before. A world without water..."

  • Oh whoops. Meant to say red riding hood instead of the little mermaid. I feel smart...

  • You might feel insanely embarrassed but it makes the play soooo much better if your way over dramatic!

And choose your character like i made my character really mean and bossy over celia, and people laughed even when nobody was saying lines from the body dialogue we were doing.

  • We did the little mermaid at my school. I was amelia (one of the twins) Everybody said that i was the better then celia, and i'm not saying this to be cocky but to give you guys a tip. DONT HOLD BACK.

  • this is the little mermaid

  • I was Delia in this play, well not this play but at my schools play!
