There were several inspirations for the song My Immortal, my great great grandfather Ludwig of Bohemia/Czech Republic origin and Amy meaning beloved. Also, the stories of Ludwig Von Beethoven's letters to his Immortal Beloved written at a spa in the Czech Republic. This inspired Gary Oldman who had starred in Kurt Cobain's brainchild Sid & Nancy to do the story about Beethoven's Immortal Beloved. Kurt had been on tour with Joe Elliott of Def Leppard when he discovered me in 1983.
