Christmas Day 2004, and across the Indian Ocean, tourists from around the globe are enjoying dream holidays in the sun. But none of them know that the very next day their video cameras will capture one of the most devastating natural disasters in recorded history, which will leave nearly 300,000 dead in eleven countries.

Five years on, and told almost entirely using amateur footage, much of it never broadcast before, Tsunami: Caught on Camera is the moving true story of the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami told through the eyes of those who were actually there.

Shot by ordinary people across the Tsunami's huge impact area, the remarkable amateur footage reveals what happened when the waves, caused by a massive underwater earthquake, hit land.

This powerful, bold and intimate film reveals what it was like to be caught up in the events of that day and tells stories of panic and heart-breaking loss, as well as courage and miraculous survival.

  • It's very heartbreaking watching this video because what I saw proved that LIFE is short & it is a gift from God. You don't know when God will take it away from you. T_T Rest in Peace for those people.

  • Someone once said that time is a predator that has stalked us all our lives. I'd rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on a journy and reminds us to cherish every moment, because they'll never come again. And what we leave behind is not as important as how we have lived. If the legacy of a mans life is measured by the lives they've touched and how much they are loved, then a big piece of them will live on in everyone who knew that person.

  • amazing. thank you for uploading this doc. ironic how the little girl got a noahs ark for christmas(shown in the beginning).

  • thank you for this. what amazes me is how few views these videos have had. this isnt fiction. this is the reality of "how fragile life is". yet we seek to avoid watching stuff that reminds us of that. entertainment videos of all kinds have millions of views and pages of comments. this is as real as it gets yet no one feels the need to talk about it. why do we prefer not to think about the meaning of this? will we forget haiti too? can we afford to forget such tragedies?

  • this.... is a big big traduty the people who lost there loved ones i wish you a big blessing im really sorry :,(

  • @gogasaf user noeuro uploaded it also and it has many views there, thank goodness. But it's incredible that even through watching these kinds of videos, as we feel is our responsibility, they can actually lead to post-traumatic stress disorder, no matter if you were there or not. So I wonder if it wiser not to know too much?

  • I had to watch this for homework and I teared up through the whole thing. This is the stuff that makes me appreciate life.

  • You have to appreciate every little moment in life and not wasted in meaningless thngs. Be good to your loves one, cause in a blink of an eye, you can loose everything includin the ones you loves the most and never see them again. Very sad documentary is a tragedy this people lived through this. But is also good to see how this survivors done something good to help children in crises and also to help themselves to cope with their pain.

  • @Lexodus444 God didn't save a lot of people from this flood.

  • @rosesolas god does not take it from you.he wants all to have everlasting life.but "time and unforseen circonstance befall us all"and god promises a physical resurection on to a paridise earth in the near future.that will occur after he cleans the earth of the wicked rulars and their people.its called armegeddon.the dead children will be brought back with new bodies, and no memory of the pain they endured.families will be reunited.the only ones not coming back will be the wicked

  • Never take Life and the people you love for granted!
