A scene from one of my favorite comedies. Dom DeLuise at his brilliant best. And Burt Reynolds as the straight man. His facial expressions are priceless.

This is a great, under rated comedy.

  • Brilliant.

  • Hey Look! It's Itchy And Charlie!

  • @justice3051 there's some validity to that. Still, this was in the mid 70s when virturally every ethnic group was fair game. We Italians didn't get off easy--The Godfather. All In The Family "attacked" virtually everyone, too. At least people could take a joke, and laugh at themselves and others. People could tell the difference between comedy and genuine racism.

  • "And I strangled him! RRRRRRRRR"

  • I don't know how Reynolds kept a serious face through any of that!

  • @justice3051 It's a long and complex tale. This history is probably something many scholars would avoid as it would be full of contention in the academic area. It's easier to make out like Ken Burns on baseball or the Civil War.

  • It is ironic that some 19th century Jews had voiced comparable sentiments, doing so even earlier: "It should be stressed that even extreme pro-Polish attitudes of some religious authorities, such as Rabbi Meisels, were interpreted by the Orthodox as a clever strategy to cope with the potentially dangerous Polish patriots rather than as an expression of real political affinity with the Polish cause." (p. 149). From Amazon Booksellers, Poles and Jews: a Failed Brotherhood

Poland ALLOWED Jews to live in Poland for 1000 years when most countries kicked them out.

The famous Rabbi Moses Isserles said "If it were not for Poland, the existence of the tribe of Israel would have been unbearable".

  • @maskedavenger777

What do Jews have to do about anything? Are you saying Jews are behind these anti-Polish slurs?

I'm sure there were Poles who weren't nice to Jews but there many Jews who weren't nice to Poles either and took for GRANTED Poland letting them in. If Poles were so bad to Jews why did most of the world's Jews CHOOSE to live in Poland for 1000 years? If Poles treated Jews badly Jews could have always left Poland. Its not like Poles forced Jews to live in Poland.

  • @justice3051 Many Poles weren't too nice to the Jews some seventy year ago. It's old history now.
