samvansomething, The reply below is for you. Believe me, I am not being smug when I try to keep people from putting their dogs at risk. You seem to have no trouble encouraging them to do so.
Fine. Take your chances. I hope your dog never sees a cat or other animal he likes to chase at a dangerous time. Good job giving people advise to trust their dogs off leash. I can only hope for the best for your dog and theirs. I have been in the pet business for 15 years and have owned and trained dogs for over 40 years and I have known many people who sadly regret that decision.
@bethpets It varies. My cairn, Norman, has never had a problem being off a leash. If he ever wanders too far, all I have to do is sternly say "house" and he'll come running right back. There's no need to act smug because you don't believe they're capable of being obedient, controllable, pets.
Cluckdemon. More Cairn Terriers die from being hit by cars than by natural causes. They are hot wired to chase moving prey. They tend to focus only on the prey and ignore things like cars and trucks.. If you want to take the chance that someday a squirrel will catch Timmy's eye and he'll end up under a car before you can say anything, that's your call. I'll keep my 11 year old 3rd level obedience trained Henry the Cairn on a leash or in a fenced in yard.
I have an 11 year old Cairn Terrier called Timmy and i have been letting run of the lead since he was 2 years old. He always comes back when i call him. So i don't know where she get's "you can never let them run of the lead" from as that is not 100% true.
thanks this helped a lot I will probably be getting this kind of dog now,and with my little bro its good that they react good to children! tnx again :)
If you are walking your dog on the street or have them in the front yard, they can get hit by a car, so it's best to put the CAR on a leash.
