Star loco, B1 4-6-0 no.1306 "Mayflower" was wisely kept in the shed where few could see her until late afternoon. Coupled unexpectedly to 76079 two movements before her timetabled light engine move from Weybourne to Sheringham, we could only watch unarmed and helpless as she passed by. Her one full run from Holt was made in semi-darkness much to Brian's frustration. Supporting locos included the fine Standard 2 2-6-0 78019 from the GCR, Ian Riley's Standard 4 2-6-0 76079, 4F 44422, the beautiful L&YR 0-6-01300 from the East Lancs and local girls - austerity 90775, N7 69621, J15 65462.

  • Nice Vid!

  • I have no plans to release a DVD specifically for the Gala as I do not really have sufficient footage from my single day. I know Peter Boggis (Peter8121) was planning to release a DVD of the Gala which I am sure will be up to his usual excellent standards. I'm sure he would be more than pleased to supply you with one! Than you for your interest.

    Mike

  • That wasn't me then but I agree about the passes - I had a couple of cases of people "freeloading" behind the fence who had only showed up to take photos/video but otherwise everyone I spoke to was very friendly and positive about the gala. Good to hear you had such a good time though. Will you be releasing a DVD with this footage on?

Re: Mayflower - I'm voluntary shed staff and wasn't involved with timetabling, so you'll know what your loco was doing! :P

  • Thanks for the info. We were disappointed that we didn't get a good shot of 1306 which was so beautifully turned out. I've never managed to get a decent shot of her yet.

  • Thanks for the info, though it looks as though the chap below disagrees with your explanation.

Whatever happened it was a good Gala and very enjoyable, if a little on the intense side!

I recall being inspected just north of Weybourne (around the time that 1300 struggled after the rain shower) by a very polite lady and gentleman! I believe my papers were in order! I always applaud such inspections as it deters the freeloaders from the lineside.

  • I opperate as part of that group the we were out late in the day because of the way we were time tabled not because of crew hours as we had 2 drivers and 3 firemen so we changed crew half way through the day

  • The B1 was out late because it was crewed exclusively by the B1 group - if it had been on in the morning then the crew would have gone over hours and there wasn't a second crew to relieve them if the engine had gone out in the morning.

A lovely bit of film though, I'm sure I talked to you at some point as I was checking passes over the first weekend.
