  • Also, the historical Alexander seemed to have a weakness for anything pretty and human. I think the movie was trying to portray that he needed Hephaestion, Bagoas, AND Roxane, but all for different things. I would say that he certainly did love all three.

  • What a sad but beautiful scene. I am also a fan of Alexander and Hephaistion, but I recognize the king's affection for Bagoas. I think in the end Alexander could never turn down love, and luckily for him he had never had to. Still, to be the center of everyone's world must have been exhausting :0)

  • Thanks. I have already reserve this book from our public library at Toronto.

  • Anyway I think that Bagoas sounds a bit like Michael Jackson.

  • So this explains why Alexander never kisses Hepheastion in the film. They both hug eath other, but do not kiss.

But in the case of Bagoas, he not only kisses him but also sleeps with him.

However when I read an encyclopedia Britannica in the 90's it was mentioned that Hephestion was Alexander's lover and Alexander grieved badly over Hephastion's death and thereby qucikened his own death. He died exactly 8 months after Hehaestion.

  • The novel The Persian Boy by Mary Renault is Bagoas' story based on written historical accounts of the time. Oliver Stone was obviously very influenced by this book when creating Bagoas' role in Alexander.

  • Where do you get all this info , from ?

  • Thank you for the info.

  • Bagoas was a slave to the former Persian King Darius, who was given to Alexander as a gift when he overthrew the monarchy.

He was lover, and friend, but also still a slave.

  • Who is Bagoas , to Alexander ?. I know that Hephaistion wasAlexander's friend and lover.

But what was Bagoas, role in this case ?. Did Alexander have two male lovers ?

  • WHAT?! I DID NOT SEE THIS SCENE!! o_0! Haha what the...why would they wanna cut this?? I saw this on USA, they cut the shex scene which is understandable, but this scene...what's wrong with it? It's beautiful to me...
