Gogarty's is okay as a pub, if you want to be certain of hearing music being played. Unfortunately, it's now a "professional set" rather than impromptu performances (see that the musicians have microphones in this clip)
Gogarty's is also often packed.
Pop along to O'Donoghues, which also has music most nights, but it does seem more informal and, surprisingly enough, not so well known by tourists, considering it was the place where The Dubliners started.
