@earlady66 I agree with you totally. Fortunately I saw her in the original UK cast of Chess and was amazed by her. I wish she would do more in this country. My original question is still out there though. Who are the up and coming comparables? Are there any?

@doug18020 I think Elaine Paige is definately in the same class as Mary Martin..she actually has a better voice than Mary did. She is still performing 40 years in the business. She is only in her early 60's but sings just as wonderfully as she always has! I do love Mary Martin tho'...so cute.

People tend to forget what a fine actress Mary Martin was. I am glad we now have this clip of "That's Him" to show how good Mary could be, even at age 74. Thanks for posting.

How truly terrific to have Mary Martin - in close focus - doing Cockeyed Optimist for all of us. And then, to see her acting the pants of That's Him we get a delightful lesson in how to act a song. This clip is a must for musical theatre students.
