Dramatic footage has emerged of a lorry apparently pushing a car sideways along a motorway in Yorkshire.

The footage, which was posted on YouTube, shows the truck travelling along the A1(M) near Wetherby with the Clio trapped under its front bumper.

The scene was filmed on a mobile phone by another motorist. At one point someone shouts: "He hasn't seen it."

The owners of the lorry, Cheshire-based Arclid Transport, and West Yorkshire Police are investigating the incident.

A spokesman from the company said: "There was an incident between a car and one of our vehicles in January.

"Since seeing the footage from YouTube we are investigating."

He added that he believed the female driver of the Clio had not been injured in the incident.

The company said the lorry driver was sent home on Wednesday, when the video emerged on the internet.

He added that the accident happened on 13 January and police had investigated, but to date no action had been taken against the lorry driver.

@chuzzwozzer I own a truck and truthfully the power they ahve under the hood is very impressive. Although sticking a Jet engine under the hood might be a good idea, get the goods to market fatser than they can grow.

you'll never convince me that mother fucker didn't know that car was there...fucking truck drivers are unsafe because they know the other will get blamed, they know the law will believe they "couldn't stop" or "didn't see"...if they have trouble stopping then why do they ride up your ass before they decide to brake? if they can't see then why do the haul ass and drive so recklessly? how long are we going let these creeps keep killing us all?!

I have seen something similiar in the US. Most trucks have a line of sight at or above 12 feet above the ground. COuple that with a small car and the driver might never even know it is there. This most liekly can be blamed on teh car driver for 2 reasons: 1 getting too close to teh truck and getting sucked into its grill, or 2 attempting to get in front of the truck way too soon. In both cases the car driver could have died due more to his/her stupidity.

a lorry has slightly higher gear ratios than a tractor an unladen veichle will never feel different pushing a ton when it can pull 44 tons even more they hardly ever need 1st gear they will drive on tickover set off in 3rd and nothing could really be done the tyres would already be bald thats the reason they wouldent be smoking its not the lorry drivers fault u can't see a thing im serious my dad nearly did the same in a fully laden 32 ton scania because some1 stopped on a motorway

@cc010750 given that the vehicle is unladen around 14ton and he sits low in the seat and she is on the passenger side blind area thats why, he is in a XF480 so 1 ton car is not noticable the woman was given 6 points and £200 fine for undertaking, you can park a people carrier along the front of a cab over and not see it thats how big the blind area at the front is.
