A slideshow film by Elinor and John Thompson based on their own experience traveling in Europe, Canada and the US even though John is restricted to a wheelchair due to his progressive MS condition.
All public transport in UK is accessible, the buses you just wait at the stop and the bus driver will either lower the bus so its level to wheel straight on or get the ramp out, the train companies do prefer for you to book ahead at least 24 hrs, when you do you are met on arrival taken to the platform, and then they help you on to train, someone will be available to help at the other end of journey as well,
You made a very good point with the comment you made about speaking up. Most hotels I've stayed in don't even have a transfer bench in the bathroom for the shower. Even if it's a roll in shower, but if you ask them they usually have some around the hotel. If you don't speak up however, they won't get it for you. I've also made suggestions before about different things and they had no idea the way they were doing things didn't work before I mentioned them.

I've been rejected from an airline when I was ready to check in with my luggage :-( wanting to travel as an independent person in a wheelchair.

Awesome information. One of my concerns are bathrooms in restaurants, are they accessible? Have you been to Germany?
