  • Good Job

"About Her" fits - It's a song Pre would have heard at the time.

In Aug 2003 I drove to Coos Bay for the 1st time in my life. Did some running and headed back the following day. Just before leavng the motel, I summoned the courage to call the number in the phone book. Ray and Elfriede Prefontaine were the nicest people you could imagine - I had to tell them how much Steve meant to me as a High School runner - not only for his running but for how he lived his life.

    continued...

  • .. Continued from below...

I came back that Sept and ran the memorial 10K and had the pleasure to shake hands with Ray. (He passed away the following year) I have gone up every Sept since to do the run. If you run, a Trip to Coos Bay will be well worth it.

    Peace

  • I think what MrLemmonLyme means is that Ryun's 46 year old school record still stands along with Pre's school

  • @thefallen2124 he also ran the 2k. matter of fact he lead the american record for a while

  • @jerryskid1 i have faith in Andy Wheating, closest thing there is in terms of a young competator, nut in my opinion... there is only one pre

  • @MrLemmonLyme yeah... that record was already broken. granted i believe ryuns was more impressive given he did in a less advanced time for the sport and he did it in an actual high school race. But in the 2001 Prefontaine Classic Mile, Alan Webb ran 3:53. welcome back to earth

  • great video

  • @MrLemmonLyme Did you know that the high school mile record was broken by Alen Webb a few years ago 3:53 I think.

  • awesome video.

    i loved it.

  • @jerryskid1 Jim Ryun is a legend here in Kansas... he has a 46 year high school mile record that will probably never be broken (3:55) He and Prefontaine were amazing.

  • yea look at cross country kids running 3 miles at 14:58!!!!!!!! freakin fast

  • Is there another runner with the legacy that Pre left us?
