My girlfriend hooked this pike on an $11 spincast combo from walmart with a small piece of leafworm from directly underneath our boat (no leader). Thinking the fish would break free I took the pole while she took a few pictures and this video (no sound). We didn't have a net or gloves so we were very unprepared. We did eventually land it though :-). She was also startled by a swan flying directly at the boat during the video. The last picture shows how fat the fish was.

  • Why didn't you set it free? Did you cook it? Is pike eatable? Isn't its meat tasteless and it has a load of spines? Perhaps smoked is good...

  • I wish we could have released it. I just kind of grabbed it by the gill, dropped it in the boat and it flopped around which caused it to loose a lot of its slime coat. It would have suffered if we released it. This was quite a long time ago and we really were not ready to handle a fish that big. It is unfortunate that it had to die but it did taste good(of course we cooked it). Also there is no way she would've held it while it was alive. I release almost all of the fish I catch.

  • @hardcorehuntinginc I think they meant the y bones when they said rib bones...

  • @robertandchristina bs they have a y bone as well.

  • @JDFlegel All rigth, I had no idea pike was edible, here in my country people are not used to eat it, in fact most people think it is not edible at all and everybody releases it. Here pikes do not grow as big as in the US, I envy you for having such a big monsters.
