@divanola Any Swing, or Big Band has to have a Driver and the Drummer is that band's click or groove..

@hank62299 yep they often used the same arrangements, but Chick would blow Benny out the park, nah out the whole damn city, and Benny knew it

sooo true --that's why resent is not justifiable thing...this guy kept a smile on his face and created such good music, same as Beethoven did when he was deaf, same as many great artists, no matter their physical challenges (e.g. Stevie Wonder) have done, leaving good, lovely things for others!

Not aware of any Henderson charts in Webb's book. A number of Chick's hit records were actually arranged by a white musician, Van Alexander, who also led a band. These included some of Ella's famous recordings with Webb. Chick Webb also had Edgar Sampson and Charlie Dixon, two guys from his band, as key arrangers.

yes, i am in jazz history right now and fletcher henderson sold arrangements to both benny goodman and chick webb... they even battled once and played the same songs

anyone here tell me if Fletcher Henderson arranged for both Chick Webb and Benny Goodman?..i know he was responsible for many of Goodman's arrangements and the similarities are .....well, too close.

I've seen a few videos on YouTube during Black History Month, but nothing about true American music pioneers like Chick. Instead I saw Will Smith and Beyonce.

How this young man kept such a brilliant smile on his face, I do not know! He suffered a terribly painful death, of tuberculosis of the spine, at only age 27. With Gene Krupa, also a favorite, I thought I had heard the very greatest. Chick Webb truly was awesome!
