Pendulum Music Pomfret School 2008

This is a piece of music composed by Steve Reich. He was interested in "musical processes" which are audible. A musical process generates sounds automatically once set in motion, and is thus not improvisation. The process here is to release suspended microphones so that they swing like a pendulum and make feedback when they come into proximity with the speaker. You can read more in "Writings About Music" by Steve Reich (1974). Now you don't have to say "wft is this?"

Thanx. My buddy Trevor runs it and composes X music. Lots of good links on the blog. Check back, it changes daily. Internet = laterally distributed art = mega traffic at your terminal = the need for hipness/relevance level rating

Genius.

@monsterjazzlicks A body in motion remains in motion until acted on by an outside force. (High school physics.)

I don't see the door noise at 0:32 in the score.

nice, but would have been better without all the chatter and clatter in the background

interesting
Another finely attenuated INTONARUMORON pick.

Where's part 2? We're not done yet!

Pretty soon after this the microphones each reached a constant tone and we shut off the power. I will look around and see if i still have the tapes around so i can pull off the final few minutes.

Not even the musicians stick around! lol And where's the audience? What a waste of a great performance in a remarkable acoustic space.

Unfortunately the video from the live performance did not come out so we had to do it again the next day.
