Death Penalty Debate

During a televised panel discussion on the death penalty on 9 October, Slovenian law professor Dragan Petrovec said victims should play no role in the sentencing of offenders. ''The victim is never objective,'' he said. ''Victims cant be judges.'' The discussion, organised by the Council of Europe to mark the European day against the death penalty, also featured Swedens Human Rights Ambassador Jan Axel Nordlander. The Council of Europes Jeroen Schokkenbroek said the organisation was critical of the United States and Japan over their use of the death penalty . He added that ''dialogue was continuing'' with both countries towards ending the practice.

OK, these three guys are certainly right in that they are against the death penalty.

However, this is not a "debate"; there is no real opposition. It's rather sort of an interview, and it has been done in a pretty dull way. It looks all very arranged, tame and unpassionate.
