He could also use a flamethrower.

Excellent Vid! I normally use the tepee method, but tried this type a few days ago, and was very impressed. Within five minutes the flame was up and roaring. Thanks.

5:43 "...as you can see once you get the first little FART lit the rest of it lights by its self." #lol

The point of a Log cabin fire is that it burns longer, and it burns like a candle, so you start the fire from the top, you need to build a mini Teepee style fire on top of the thing...

my first thought while watching this was: is there anyone out there who really needs to spend 6 minutes watching how to do something as unbelievably simple as taking a match and lighting some wood for a fire,,,, and then I am thinking yes probably is someone does need to watch this guy light a fire with his cottonballs and log cabin method than it should probably be even longer because they must be really thick in the head!

What knife was that?

nice method of making your fire but I think that your sweedish fire steel is the best but scriping it with a knife is not good because you might dill the blade and its not very good for the knife, Good Vid tho

I definitely agree, which is why I used the spine (back) of the knife.

Depends on what kind of wood you use and what you mean by staying lit. The one I built would probably have a flame coming off it for a good 30 minutes if I didn't add any more wood, plus it would smolder for a good while longer.
