Chef Ron, head chef at Whole Foods Market, Wheaton, prepares a Tri-Tip Steak in a simple 12 minute meal. Cooked properly, the value-priced Tri Tip steak can be the centerpiece of a hearty dinner.
Tri tip is the exception. It's very lean and can easily become over cooked. It needs to be flipped every few minutes for 15-30 min depending on how you want it cooked and the size you cook. And yes you should let it sit for a few minutes. But as for the flipping, that's true for almost all other cuts of meat. A good chef only needs one flip. Just not tri tip.

A good steak should only be flipped once. And it needs to rest. A steak that size, probably needs about 2-3 minutes of resting time.
