Brief Bio of His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje
H.H. the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje was born in Tibet on May 6th 1983. He is the first son of the 3rd Mipam Rinpoche, a great Nyingma Lama, and Dechen Wangmo, the daughter of a noble family descending from King Gesar of Ling. At the age of one and a half the boy started telling people who knew his predecessor that he was the Karmapa. In 1994, he and his family managed to escape from Tibet to Nepal and then to India. Soon the young Karmapa arrived in New Delhi where during a welcoming ceremony H.H. Shamar Rinpoche formally recognized him as the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa. The 17th Karmapa was given the name of Trinley (meaning Buddha activity) Thaye (limitless) Dorje (unchanging).
In 1997, H.H. the 17th Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje was officially invited to Bhutan for the cremation ceremony of his teacher, the late Topga Rinpoche (former Vajra master of Tsurphu Monastery), where he was received with full honors. A three-hour drive from the Bhutanese border to the capital Thimpu took seven hours as thousands of well-wishers greeted him along the road. On October 17th 1997, three thousand people came for his blessing and the entire royal family, including the then king Jigme Singye Wangchuck and the four queens, received him as the 17th Karmapa. The Bhutanese royal family historically have had a long standing relationship with the Karmapas since the time of the 15th Karmapa Khakyab Dorje.
In October 1999, the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa embarked on his first international teaching tour and gave initiations to several thousand people in Singapore and Taiwan. The beginning of the new millennium was marked by his first historic visit to the West. In Dusseldorf, Germany, Karmapa was enthusiastically received by 6,000 students from several hundred Buddhist centers from over 30 countries.
In the summer of 2003, H.H. the 17th Karmapa conducted his first official program in the United States, giving a series of empowerments and teachings. On July 19th and 20th 2003, he gave the Karma Pakshi and Medicine Buddha empowerments in San Francisco, California.
In December 2003, after completing his formal education, the 17th Karmapa was declared "Great Tantric Master" (skt. Vajracharya).
To date, His Holiness has taught the Buddha Dharma extensively throughout the world, with students representing all eight regions of the world's population (Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, Europe, North America, Central America, the Caribbean, South America, Africa, Australia and Oceania) in continuation of the activity established by His predecessor the late 16th Gyalwa Karmapa Rangjung Rigpe Dorje. In addition to travelling for teachings and performing sacred religious ceremonies throughout the world, His Holiness Karmapa continues to receive transmissions and initiations from some of the most respected Lamas, Scholars and great yogis of all the major schools and traditions of Tibetan/Himalayan Buddhism, even receiving particular transmissions and teachings that were once lost to the Karma Kagyu school but have been carried on purely by another tradition through generations of highly qualified spiritual masters.
The 17th Karmapa Thaye Dorje currently resides in Kalimpong, India, where he continues his spiritual training and oversees the administration of the Shri Diwakar Vihara (a monastic institute of higher Buddhist studies) as well as providing spiritual guidance and performing administrative duties for hundreds of Buddhist centers, Monasteries and numerous charitable organizations the world over.

Thank you for sharing this.
I am a Falun Dafa practitioner. Falun Dafa (or Falun Gong) is a cultivation system in the Buddha School based on the principles of the Universe: Truth, Compassion, Forbearance. Since 1999 it has been brutally persecuted by the CCP in China. People are being killed, tortured, put into concentration camps and have organs harvested from live people, simply because of their belief.
