JOLO ISLAND (Mindanao Examiner / 14 Feb) -- Thousands of U.S. and Filipino soldiers are to begin a series of joint military exercises aimed at improving their combat capabilities in the southern Philippines.

Both countries are to stage their first military drill, dubbed as Balikatan 2007, which means "shoulder-to-shoulder," in the war-torn island of Jolo, about 950 km south of Manila, starting February 18 and would last until March 4.

And this would be followed in Tawi-Tawi island near the Sabah border and continued in central Mindanao island, where Filipino troops are hunting down members of the militant Abu Sayyaf and Jemaah Islamiya groups, blamed for the string of bombings in the Philippines that had already killed tens of dozens the past years.

U.S. and Philippine troops would also embark on humanitarian missions, that included infrastructure projects and medical outreach in poor Muslim areas in during the exercises, said U.S. Air Force Major John Redfield, spokesman of the Joint Special Operations Task Force-Philippines.

  • look how Dogmatic & Ignorance this Muslim Rebel talks... they keep on crying they OWN MINDANAO. Complaining they are marginalized and their solution is to divide Mindanao. Worst is U.S. Gov't support this Muslim Rebels demand of dividing Mindanao while at the same time posturing to combat terrorist.

the more chaotic the region is the more the U.S. Gov't LOVES its.

  • @DoubleTapLasVegas I'm not putting the sole blame on the USA, but they do play a very central role in this issue. I invite you to take a look at Philippine economy, the educational & legal system, history, political reality & Southeast Asian studies. The USA act as a neo-imperalistic power & as such don't care about the welfare of their colony. But not all Filipinos follow prominent figures blindly, just like all other people. There's more to say, but space here just isn't enough.

  • @GaolisVideoLog If what you say is true the Philippines would be a much more prosperous place today...ITS NOT!!! The fact of the matter is that you can take any Pinoy and give them a little power and guaranteed it will be abused. Proof...Estrada. Pinoys are so fast to rally behind any man or woman that says anything that sounds good. Stupidity and ignorance is whats keeping the Pinoy down. Its really easy to blame the US about the problems in P.I. but we all know that the blame is the Pinoys.

  • @darkzoneo144 Either speak Tagalog or English but not this gibberish. Secondly, do some research. What good does do it if people kill each other? No country helps another country without asking for a reward. You're in Spain, right? Go, check out the EU info about the Philippines or, if you don't want to research yourself, watch the Philippine episode of "Le dessous des cartes" from Arte. Or do some Southeast Asian studies, look at the economy, read serious newspaper. There's no debate about it.

  • @purehuman Problem is that due to the USA there were two migratory movements to Mindanao. Once during direct colonial age, once while the neo-imperialistic age was still young. It's a similar tactic by colonial powers to decrease the strength of a people. Most migrants came from Visayas, some from Luzon. The "actual" Mindanaoans have been fighting for their freedom for the last 400 years now. The USA is the country with the largest military expenses. Naturally they have to invest in conflict.

  • @cutejapogi No, the problem is that they rape Filipinas but cannot be held responsible, back then our laws didn't allow it & nowadays the Visiting Forces Agreement protects US American criminals. That is the problem. Filipinos would be responsible if & there you have to research better, they were granted the right of emancipation in their country. Everything is directed at, created by & largely governed & owned by US companies or the USA. The president even can't make vital decissions by himself

  • @DoubleTapLasVegas The USA funded, supported & gave shelter to Marcos, a mass murderer. The USA killed 10% of the Philippine population in the "philippine insurrection", the Phil.president til now can't make vital decisions unless given permission by US advisors. Dole is the largest land owner in the Philippines & other US companies own all natural resources. The USA even control our educational system. Everything is run & owned by the USA, try to learn something about your colony before talking

  • @GaolisVideoLog You ever heard of "Debt of Honor"? That is why the US is there. Don't talk about something you know nothing about.

  • @cutejapogi

You need more research my friend ^__^

  • @GaolisVideoLog wow, why you guys always saying that american people raping pinay? that is isolated cases. so it means that other race can tell that filipino are killer cause, there is a LOT of many cases like that in other country. and TARGET? wow. your just belittle the dignity of your countryman. and FYI american is not the only one who destroying the philippine natural resources, filipino is the one who is responsible to it. and have you ever done anything for your country? i guess not.

  • @asdfyoh1 the US entered the war because JAPAN attacked the PEARL HARBOR... get it right... dont tell me that your one of general of US that could be the primary sources of that thought. huh? where did you get that? huh? how easy to insist if your cant even give a help.
