Thanksgiving '89
Words and music by Robert Wachowiak
November 23rd, 1989
Uncle Geno's coming over again tonight
He's gonna try to get that old station wagon
Running right
Grandma says he's just running away
From his own life
And I don't know what she means, but
Thank you
Thank you very much
For all the little things we've missed
For all the little things that we didn't know
We didn't have
And mommy's cooking up some turkey
But it's not enough to feed us all
And daddy doesn't know a thing about cars
But he's going outside to help, anyway
With a beer in each hand
And a couple of smokes, and
Thank you
Thank you very much
For all the little things we've missed
For all the little things that we didn't know
We didn't have
Then they both come back inside
Stumbling and laughing
And smelling like oil and smoke
In their snow-covered Army coats
Now Uncle Geno's driving back home
To his own family - reluctantly
Maybe he didn't know that he gave me
Such a vivid memory
Oh, thank you
Thank you very much
For all the little things we've missed
For all the little things that we didn't know
We didn't have
