Message for educators and for school personnel is to get online, develop relationships online with the students you are dealing with in your schools. This (social networking sites and video sharing sites) is a really valuable technology. It is a great technology to be preventative, and to intervene before something serious takes place, so get online and develop relationships, but of course have boundaries because youve got to realize you are carrying out your professional duties. It is a really valuable tool and it can be valuable in preventing school based violence.

The importance of creating a culture of respect in schools. Cyberbullying is the use of information and communication technologies, such as email, cell phone and pager messages, to support deliberate, repeatedand hostile behaviour that is intended harm others.

Where off school conduct has an impact on the school climate, the school can take disciplinary action. Be respectful and civil in all your on-line communication.

If you are being bullied online, tell an adult you trust. If you need to notify the police, the police will do everything they can to work together with school authorities and other community partners to help the situation.

If you wish to remain anonymous and notify police of an online posting that is of concern to you... Crime Stoppers programs offer anonymous reporting online, on the phone and via text message. Your anonymity is protected by the Supreme Court of Canada.
