This is one of my favorite Glen Campbell songs. His last top ten hit, this song reached #6 on the Billboard Country chart in 1989 and was his only charted single on the Universal Records label. (Universal 66024).
I used to hear this song everyday back in the fall/winter of 1989 and was 100% sure it would be his first #1 country song in 12 years. It was racing up the charts and leap frogging over a lot of singles in the top 30, but the minute my father told me it wouldn't make it to #1, it stalled at #6 . Still one of my favorite Glen Campbell songs. Thanks for posting it.
"Farther across the sky"? HUH?!?! Well, it's modernized to a plane instead of a train so he's gotta sing "sky" cause he sang "plane", but it don't rhyme with "back". Maybe he shoulda sang "Cryin' won't bring her nigh" ;-)
I like this version more than Lefty's, because when Lefty says "Farther on down the track," i personally think he throws the song off. Glen saying "Farther across the sky" is a better fit for the song. Can I get an amen?
Great Song, and Glen was a great singer.
