pardon my grammar below-typed fast.
Please be open minded though-HSUS isn't just an animal welfare group-it tries to protect all animals-not just the cute and furry ones. Compassion should encompass all animals-and the HSUS has many bright employees who do many investigations and research.
Their "standards" aren't just based on feelings.
I suggest another book "Animal Liberation" by Peter Singer, a professor at Princeton.

Farm animals endure incredible pain in factory farms. Pigs r more inteligent than dogs-regardless- all animals feel pain. See "Death on a Factory Farm" "Fowl Play" & "Earthlings". U would see their horrific existence-.Paul McCartney "If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would become a vegetarian." Dogs & cats are skinned for their fur in China, Chimpanzees endure painful animal tests and have languished in testing facilities for over 40 years, exotic animal trade, etc.

I really wish HSUS would stick to Issues they should fight against like cock fighting and dog fighting instead of attacking animal production where they base all of their "standards" on emotion.
