In this video I walk you through setting up Magento from scratch on a windows environment in about 10 minutes. This will require the popular WAMP Server package which brings together Apache, MySQL, and PHP. There are a handful of tips in this video that can help you get started with no hassle and avoid some of the common pitfalls of setting Magento up for the first time. I hope that you find it useful!

  • me0wzilla: As far as I know yes - it should work. I can confirm for sure that it works with 1.5.1.0, but I have not tested with WAMP 2.1d, where the only difference is PHP 5.3 (I was using PHP 5.2) - although there should not be any issues! Let me know,

  • Try with a different browser. I am pretty sure this fixed it for me when I encountered the same issue. However, if you want, you can try tsearching for 'magento admin redirect loop" and see what you get.

I tried to post direct links but it did not allow me to do so here.

  • If I recall correctly, try this: clear your browser's cookies, then clean the var/sessions and var/cache folders of Magento and try logging in again. It apparently happens right after installation for some odd reason.

  • mjdayetube: Good Question! This is most likely by design. I don't know the exact answer. I guess only Roy or Yoav can answer this. It may be because they wanted to force the developers to use the real address, because then all the links are tied into this real address. It may also be because they wanted to get a real count of who is using what (notice their RSS feed can tell them who is using it and from what server address it is coming from).

  • Thank you so much for this video! I would have never been able to do it myself.

  • it doesn't work on latest wamp yet

  • Thanks alot man ! Please keep uploading more tutes on magento .

As there are not many resources available over the internet .

Thanks again Awesome video and well explained .

  • Good tutorial. Straight forward and EXACTLY what I needed. Confirming this still works for wamp server 2.1d and magento 1.5.1.0

  • Thanks I tried that but no deal. For some reason, it keeps redirecting to index dot php slash install instead of install dot php

    any ideas?
