Colin Farrel plays a typical Dublin Irish lad - I've lived with a few. And most if not all of them are politically incorrect. If you try and take the film itself as a political joke you'll walk out very upset. In all actuality they just really captured the character. He goes after fats, blacks, midgets, and its all at the end of the day, very funny, if you don't mind taking one on the cheek. Other characters in the film (especially Brendan Gleeson) maintain PC. His (Farrel's) character is a bit young and brash and immature, not helped by a terrible deed he's done before the events of the film. In all actuality the movie is a cracker with a bit of serious and a lot of dark humor. Or humour, for you Euros.

When you write in English, you spell the words correctly. You do not spell the words as you would pronounce them when speaking. So, yes, you are the definition of an "idiot."

Also, whether the couple is supposed to be American, Canadian, or Chinese still does not explain why so many people are getting worked up about this scene (including you). It is a very minor scene in the movie, and it is not worth getting angry and arguing about the issue, and this was my point.

In the movie, it is later revealed that the couple is Canadian and Collin Farell's character gets arrested for attacking them. It does not matter what you think, I am simply telling you what actually happens in the movie.

Also, the joke is not about Americans (or Canadians), the joke is Collin Farrell is rude to the couple, but he explains to his confused friend that they were rude.

So many people are getting hung up on this little scene. Moreover, the joke is not about Americans! It is about how Collin Farrell's character is rude (which his friend does not see), and to explain to his friend why the couple is so angry, he plays off the stereotype of rude Americans. That is the joke--he was the rude one.
