There are claims that both the right and left wing control mainstream media. Is there a media bias? And if it so, which wing is clipped?

  • i'm beginning to think that americans don't really know what liberal OR conservative means...

  • @Flametorrent "but aren't people smart enough to know what is bias and what isn't when watching the news?"

    Sometimes yes and sometimes no.

Unless we can go out and fact check ourselves, most people simply pick one or two news sources. If the facts are incorrect on these new sources, how would you know?

Some of these news sources peddle the idea that they are encouraging people to "think for themselves" just as an excuse to push an agenda.

  • What I have started doing and it will have more effect on NEWS MEDIA. Every time i see a biased or skewed falsely report I am going to contact the Company being advertised that I saw just prior to that and tell them that due to them advertising on a dishonest and biased network I will no longer be using their product. and will explain to my friends and family to avoid this company at all cost. Do you think if enough of us did that it would cut into their bottom line to change some what?

  • The arguments presented here is false on many levels. The most obvious falacy is the assertion that due to liberal journalists, media therefore must be liberal. Journalists do not have final say on what gets published. That is decided by an editor who answers to the owners who most commenly are wealthy business people and far from liberal, and sponsors who also rarely are particularly liberal. These factors has been proven in several studies to be much more influential on how the news is shaped.

  • 1. There is some bias in the rest of the media, but Fox News is not some conservative mirror image to the liberal media. The whole network is united in their promotion of conservative politics, even in the most mundane stories. 2. By definition, pundits are biased. Their goal is to get the audience to agree with them. While we like to hear opinions we agree with, we (hopefully) value pundits will make logical arguments backed by facts. Fox News pundits fail miserably at this.
