After they announced the fact that they will support a FULL implementation of JAVA with the TouchBook OS at Launch, i think im gonna stick with it for a little while.
If you know a good amount about hardware, you prolly could get something up and running like that. But you would have to do stuff like soldering and unsoldering on the motherboard. one wrong step, and your out of a motherboard.
Android id a good alternative because it was made from the ground up to be used on embedded platforms. But, with the release of Chrome OS, android will not be the preferred os from Google on the TouchBook. Personally, im gonna stick with the stock OS for a bit, i cant believe they have JAVA support. its a first on the ARM architecture. Also, putting android on this, is just another way of showing off your programming skills.
I don't think you will be able to install a hd... The data is stored on a microSD card. Perhaps, if there's enough space inside, you can plug in a USB-HD/stick.
I wonder if it would be able to run a proper OCR software to write text with a stylus... well, time will tell, maybe some hardcore linux-freaks build something running on this device :D
Thats what the internal USB are for. Im am under the impression that the wifi and bluetooth both take one each, and then there is one left over. i wont use the bluetooth, so thats 2 left for me. as far as the OCR, maybe with a system update. but im not counting on it in the intitial release, im sure something like that is available on Debian tho. Which you wont have a problem installing.
