This is something I did for a 3-spool tape dispenser, which we only used 2 of the 3, so I came up with a way to use it, thanks to an empty 1" masking tape core, some Flash graphics, glue, and imagination.
I made a miniature version of "The Big Wheel" on The Price is Right.
You will notice the font is not the same. Then again, they changed the font on the real thing (to those ugly NASCAR numbers), so it doesn't matter. You'll also notice the 5 and 15 are white, not green. When they were made green, they dissapeared into the green space around it. Lastly, there's no border around the numbers. For what it's purpose is for, I didn't take time to make those, plus they would not show up well on such a small scale, plus I didn't want to spend the time trying. The gold lines between the denominations are barely visible anyhow.
A miniature version of the oldest still-in-use wheel in game show history.

  • nice to know you spent your time working constructively

95% of this was done at home. The other 5% was slipping the wheel onto the dispenser, and taping the pointer on.

  • win i love things like that its just so cool

Got the idea from a slot machine drown on the reels. I thought of this idea, since one reel was never used.

  • I found a secret room. With secrets.

  • hahaha.. i love people

  • Okay. A site I saw said Wheel piloted on '75, and started in '78. A few other sites agree with you. Lesson learned.

  • Perhaps, but whoever told you about Wheel having a failed pilot in 1975 and premiering in 1978 has the years wrong. Wheel had at least two failed pilots: one Shopper's Bazaar in 1973, and one indeed called Wheel of Fortune in 1974. Despite the failures, NBC did give Wheel one last chance, and it premiered on January 6, 1975 with a huge success. I don't know if the success inspired Price to have their own in September of 1975.

  • I'm not sure about that. I do recall WoF had a failed pilot in 1975, and was retooled for it's 1978 TV premiere. As for WoF's wheel, I don't know for sure, because they have multiple wheels, good for theose road trips, so do they really have one older than Price's? Could be.

  • Oh, I know about PYL. That was a fun show too.

BTW, the Wheel on WOF actually lasted longer than the one on PIR. Yes, PIR premiered in Sept. 1972 and WOF in Jan.1975, but PIR did not start using their wheel until Labor Day of 1975, just months after WOF premiered. If you don't believe me, you should probably check some sites out.

One more thing about the PIR wheel, did you ever see it when it was purple? I liked that although many others may have not.
