In this episode, I show how to make Merlin's Shrimp Stir Fry. This is a unique recipe that I came up with and this was actually my first time making it. The key special ingredient is SUSHI GINGER (which I had never heard of being used in a stir fry). You can get sushi ginger at World Market if you cannot find it in your local supermarket. The sauce is a mixture of Soy Sauce and Duck Sauce.

It turned out really good... though I plan on testing the necessity of the duck sauce in the future (it may make it sweeter, but I certainly could not specifically taste the duck sauce). Here are the ingredients that you will need:

1 Lb of Shrimp (Peeled and Deveined)
1 Package of Stir Fry Vegetables
1/4 Cup Sushi Ginger
1/4 Cup Soy Sauce
1/2 Cup Duck Sauce
1 Tbs Cornstarch
2 Tbs Oil
Noodles/Rice

*Serves 2-3 people*

I love stir fry meals, and they really are very easy to make. I used frozen stir fry vegetables in this one, but you can certainly use fresh vegetables to make it even better! I suggest making sure you get some broccoli and some red pepper and snap peas along with whatever other veggies you want in there.

Approximate cooking times:
Cook the Shrimp for about 2 minutes (until almost fully cooked)
Cook for about an additional 2-3 minutes after adding the veggies
Cook for about 1 minute after adding the Sushi Ginger
Cook for about 2 additional minutes after adding the sauce

  • looks good man!! you should try adding some white pepper,a little tomato paste and onion to it

  • Onion seems like a possible good idea; however, I think the tomato paste will kinda go against the clean and light flavor profile I am trying to present with this dish. Thanks for the input though... I always appreciate the suggestions.

  • Hey guys, I am planning on adjusting my recipe, since the duck sauce did not add a lot of flavor to the dish... I will be doing a soy-lime sauce next time I do this dish... I think it will rock!

  • Please don't use frozen ingredients. Frozen ingredients will take away too much heat from the wok that you need to create that "wok hey" or wok burn. Also you shrimps have to be pat dried first.

  • I sometimes use fresh vegetables and sometimes use frozen... I have never noticed any major differences between fresh and frozen vegetables... other than the freshness of course. They are both just as good for stir-fries in my opinion and the frozen are quick and easy to do, so when I don;t want to spend the extra prep time, I just use frozen.

  • do you upload cooking videos regularly? i love watching cooking vids, and if you do upload regularly, every when? i could subscribe...

  • Chinese food for Americans. The pan should be very hot on a stir fry. I dont know what he is doing but no stir frying there!!

  • Nice work!!

  • @ChefMerlin You should try soy with honey. I also have tried a small amount of orange juice. It usually turns out great for me :)

  • I would have done this the same way, except when it comes to shrimp being used in a stir fry, I always use either paprika or something like thyme so that everything doesn't taste like it's flooded with soy sauce.

  • Please!!!!!!!!

  • It has a little bit of bite to it... kind of a sweet and sour flavor. I'm not the best at describing tastes. Next time you go out for sushi try the orangeish-pink stuff that comes with your sushi... that is sushi ginger.
