North Korea Prepares Rocket Launch

North Korean leader, Kim Jong-il has been reportedly touring the
province where the state is preparing a rocket launch. Analysts say the launch would be for test-firing its long-range missile designed to strike U.S. territory.

A "peaceful space program" is what North Korea claims as the reason for its planned rocket launch.

But, if it flies successfully, the Taepodong-2 missile has a maximum range of 6700km - enough to carry a nuclear warhead to Alaska.

South Korea's biggest daily newspaper, the Chosun Ilbo, says Kim Jong-il made a similar round of field guidance visits in 2006 to the known missile launch site on the east coast. This was just weeks before the missile's last test-firing, which fizzled just seconds into it's flight.

This latest trip is one of several reported in the past few days that have taken Kim near the launch site in Musudan.

The United States is monitoring the missile preparations, but so far there is no sign of an actual missile, say U.S. officials. They added that Washington believes Pyongyang is preparing for some sort of launch but may be moving cautiously to avoid another failure.

North Korea's state-run television, KRT showed dozens of still photographs of Kim, though he is widely believed to have suffered a stroke in August.

As a future United States Marine, I'd really appreciate if Kim Jong-il just realized that everyone would be grateful for compliance. I feel that he thinks if he complies with the rest of the world it's seen as weakness when all we all want is for the world to not have to fight or kill anymore. If I hear one more nuclear threat from Kim Jong-il we should just nuke N.K. and evacuate as many civilians as possible beforehand. This whole Unstable nuclear situation with N.K. is just too fragile.
