I posted this because there is so much misunderstanding on the doctrine of election as Calvinists believe it to be so. C.H. Spurgeon, a Calvinist preacher, gives one of the best explanations of the doctrine I've ever heard so I wanted to share it with all of you.

And now, my brother, we will have a song together, and we will see how we can get on there. Open your hymn book, and you sing in the language of your Wesleyan hymn-book,

"Oh, yes, I do love Jesus
Because he first loved me."

There, brother, that is Calvinism.

- C.H. Spurgeon

  • It is the only doctrine that God Has .any thing else is of man and pride.

  • Wow! Praise God! What a preacher he was and what an awesome God we have who raises up such people. All glory be to Him!

Thanks for uploading this sermon Lane, you're channel certainly is a blessing. God bless you always brother!

  • This is an interesting session.

  • He was explaining and defending the Calvinist doctrine of election: that God chose those whom He would save.

The people he was referring to as opposing him, were Armenians. They believe we choose to be saved, when we "accept" Jesus.

  • Oh, that sermons of this nature were preached across this land today. I'm awed by the great depth of God's love!

  • Can someone explain what he is trying to say?I mean I don't get it..its almost poetic and using big words..and i'm a teen so..it won't seek in..does someone mind?

  • Powerful preaching!! Thank you for posting it.

  • This was great! I listened to all five parts. Thanks for posting them.

    Karen

  • Thank you Lane,thank you.!!

  • What else can I say than: "This is truth"?

I have been (am) contemplating the truths about God's election and man's volition. This is yet another addition to my awe for His salvation plan. His plan was His plan before any man drew breath. Salvation is His idea, His divine right to give to whom He wants. The holiness and sovereignty of God...amazing.
