Je me souviens l'avoir vu jouer à Agen en 1994 dans un match Agen vs Narbonne où il avait été impressionant., ce jour là il avait inscrit un essai incroyable sous les poteaux, en se faufilant à une vitesse phénoménale entre plusieurs adversaires.

A l'époque où Sella jouait il n'y avait pas la coupe d'Europe des clubs,il a en fait arrêté sa carrière l'année de sa création et n'a connu que deux ans de proffessionalisme pur avec l'équipe des Saracens. Joueur reconnu sur le plan international il l'aurait été encore plus avec la Heineken cup, car avec son club Agen il était énorme en championnat de France et durant une quinzaine d'année !

You can see the difference between the way in which the french prepared (semi-professional) at this time, as compared to England who were still strictly amateur in their preparation.

sirrbot: no. The English aren't that bad. It's Sella who is that good. See how he starts his run towards the right to draw the English defence there? Then he sells a dummy to his man and takes to the left, with a longer run to the goalline but only Marcus Rose to stop him ("only" is relative here. For a lesser player, Rose would have been the defender to avoid at all cost!). It's just a brilliant play. No shame for the English defence here.

Sella was pure class. I met him in 2006, and I asked him about his try. He said he could just sense it coming. He just went for it. And what a swerve to get away from Halliday. That England team would be beaten by a good NL2 team today.
