Oh Yea. Renewable resources are a serious thing to look at and focus on. Especially the way things are looking for our economy. Or at least stocking up on things that last a long time like rice. Also getting a dehydrator is on my list. Also I recommend watching "The Story of Dick Proenneke" Its not about this kind of thing. But it is in the same boat. I recommend watching it at least once.
I highly recommend to everyone to check out the system put together by TheUrbanFarmingGuys. They have a YouTube channel and a website. They go into detail integrating hydroponics and aquaculture.
@TheRobertdavie Excellent! Be sure to inform all you know this way we all stay healthy & out of the hands of soulless pharmaceutical companies who wish to profit off of us. Be sure to have some Oil of Oregano, essential lemon oil in hand to fight off the flu or common cold. Also a enzyme in apple seeds (Laetrile B17) prevents cancer so munch up the seeds when you eat an apple. The leaves of the marijuana plant cures asthma, put one leaf in drink like tea if you know anyone who's ill. Be well
i have given it alot of thought.. i just dont have the room for a system to sustain my family. we have food stores, guns, water, solar energy array. i have dabbled in gardening but the yield is way too low to sustain. if i had the room and the money. i would love to be self sufficient.
Don't forget perennials. Blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, grapes, fruit/nut trees, herbs, asparagus, etc. Nothing like seeing the asparagus push up through the soil in early spring.

8:10 store bought vegetables look good but are bankrupt both nutritionally and taste wise.
13:55 fish waste makes good fertilizer for hydroponics.
