I'd say yes, only because it would be better to return them to the store, or better yet, let everyone know you want NO PART in Christmas and the best gift you could ever receive is not having to act happy for getting useless crap you don't need.
A good argument is; "I'm not Christian therefore I don't want to celebrate a Christian holiday"
It's part of the programming at an early age to accept non-Christmas alternatives, so use the programming to push away part of the programming.

I've been opening my Christmas gifts (useless crap) early and then giving them to other people. This way I don't have to buy anything. Is that bad?

i would say thats a good first step. you dont have to hold on to crap you dont want, and other people dont feel bad.
but we could also just stop the sillyness, no?

My husband and I celebrated Yule last night, just us around a fire in the yard, with a little good food and some wine and buttered rum. Very simple, no stress, no gifts...and you know, it was the first holiday thats actually felt like a holiday in a long, long time. I've basically come to the conclusion that everything I've always loved about Christmas is actually Yule anyway.
