THE GRIM REALITY. I was there. A Career Job Fair sponsered by BAE Systems at the Detroit Marriott in Troy Michigan where I guess more than 1500 people were waiting in line to interview for only a few job openings. Seriously depressing. There were Troy police handing the traffic because some many desperate people attended the fair in search to find a solution of being unemployed. The hotel parking lots were full where people had to park in lots next to the Marriott and they were being towed away. People from the Marriott were saying that they had never seen anything like this before.
I myself felt like I had a glimpse of how real this problem is. Now I believe that many of the people still with the fortune of being employed out there really do not understand how grave this problem is.
The unemployed people continue to flood the market with more and more layoffs and make the situation of landing a job more and more difficult for people like us still on the street looking for one. Government seems not interested in any actions to help the unemployed directly. I am one and so far I seen no help for our government.
WHERE ARE WE HEADED...?!?

  • Do we leave Michigan and gamble that we'll have more luck finding jobs elsewhere or is it just as bad everywhere?

  • Well... Almost 7 months since my layoff from the auto industry and still unable to land a job. I have been looking... Very hard... And after more than 600 resumes submitted all over the country, and many industries, still no luck. The problem is all over but there also is pre-dispostion from the "other" industries (non-automotive) in being recepetive to the automotive crowd. I've seen job postings write in bold text "No Automotive Expereince Please".

    Very difficult times.

    Good Luck...!

  • if you live in michigan, GET THE FUCK OUTA THERE! that place is doomed

  • It's not about who is running the state. Wanna find the missing jobs, look to Mexico, India and China. All that crap they sell at the local stores is made in China. You're jobs were moved over seas by world traders sitting in Congress, it's not a state government problem. States cannot stop imports, only the Federal Government has power to tax and levi or stop imports, that's how we used to raise most of our taxes, with imports. We don't have enough energy.resources but build useless ships

  • @retrocareermelted but when you say to ppl to get out of the place... where do you suggest ppl move to as it's bad in a lot of places from what I can see & in a lot of developed countries too.. such as western europe... ireland has collapsed badly, the uk, spain, greece.... australia & nz are struggling too... california's bankrupt... where should ppl go & immigration is being capped in places too as the government struggles to look after their own ppl.

  • @mforce1 Dude I have no idea what you are talking about. It must be a response to a real old post because 700 Billion is just a drop in the bucket compared to what this dirt bag has dropped on us now.

  • @wbtaylor1 sounds like someone's stalking Obama? Get a grip. Michigan started this economic downturn in mid-2007. Other states are experience this as well.....BTW, that 700 Billion is already coming out of ours wallet with both wars.

  • By the end of july 2010 there will be 80.000+ more unemployed in michigan & more people will fall by the thousands after that.

11.000 to 15.000 (3rd world) immigrants come to michigan yearly how many stay is unknown I are hardley think there will be anything left my kids generation in 10 to 15 years.

  • And it has only gotten worse in Michigan.

I to am laid off (8 months now). I went back and finished a degree while searching fruitlessly for work. Now I am looking out of state where the weather is nicer and the people more friendly.

The only jobs that once can get fairly easy in Michigan are the $7-$9/hr jobs.

  • They don't care about the poor.

  • The govt can't do nothing about this there inept.

  • Jesus Christ!

That us sad. I live in Michigan myself and here we are a year later and things have not gotten any better. In fact I think they are worse.
