Being halfway between an EVE Online player (well, at least a subscriber) and a geek, I'm working on a 3d, animated version of the famous auto-generated sovereignty influence map (http://dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/verite/influence.png).
OFC i'm using blender + python. RDBMS is Postgresql.
First step was to draw the map itself. It's done.
Albeit not breath-taking (needs lot of tuning), here's the result.
Experienced Eve players should recognize at least 0.0 regions (empire ones are almost impossible to tell apart. sorry for oversized halos).

That, among other stuff, was the original plan.
Project is paused for a couple of weeks more (not abandoning it, don't worry).
Have a look at following versions (0.0.2 is currently out), and follow links to see details.

Wow looks great man, what type of software are you using for this? It would be pretty great for them to post this on CAOD under the territorial maps section. Anyhow good stuff keep up the work.

This is the output of a Blender script querying a postgresql DB (as you probably know, CCP does distribute a DB dump of static data with every release).
