@twhite113 patterns are formless, passive; vibration is energy expressing pattern as form, active, birthing; phenomenon dependent upon form pattern/vibration for exist. Mind/body made of out patterns/activity cycles - blood flow, nerve impulses and others; cycles entrain to greater cycle (environment). When vibrations meet they either resonate/strengthen, destroy/amplify or pass through each other. Artist - digital media - speakers - listener, pattern remains, changing form as passes through.

This video is ok; nice what you say about vibration and ragas, but I disagree with what you say about masters saying one can get sick for playing a raga in a diferent prahar.
I've had th chance to talk to great masters of Indian music (Such as Sachdevji, K. CHakravarty and more) and they say something different. Tehy talk about evoking the rasa, in order to make it "fit" the prahar. Otherwise, since most concerts are at night, we would never hear afternoon raags, for instance. see?
Hope it helps

what are the 6 ragas?

@nachtkriechen - Ravi Shenkar said that it was impossible to have full mastery of the instrument (and almost an insult) without studying Indian culture. Every little bit of information helps, and I find them informative. At least she's making an effort to post these. Sheesh. People are so quick to criticize.

Wow, does this woman ever actually PLAY the Sitar? She just keeps talking and talking and talking and talking AND TALKING! Enough with the entire history of Indian culture! Your video is entitled "How to PLAY the sitar" not "How to sit around and discuss everything Indian"!
Everything is vibration ...it's true what she's saying..
