Keep It Real: Chapter4 Part2

Joe's POV (right before he calls Jessie)

I don't know if I can do this. I mean, I want to, but what if she says no? Or worse, what if she says yes? Well, that is what I want, but she's probably used to fancy restaurants and expensive places and I'm just gonna take her to the movie theater. Calm down Joe, if she says yes, she likes you for you so she won't care. Deep breath. Ok. I'm ready.
"Okay, guys. I think I'm ready."
"Good. Now just pick up the phone and dial her number.", said Kevin. Him and Nick are standing in front of me. Of course I havn't been able to stop thinking about Jessie since I got home last night, and they noticed. So I told them everything, and now they're here to support me when I call to ask her out.
"Right. Wait, what?"
"The phone, Joe, the PHONE."
"Oh, yeah. Thanks Kevin." I grab the piece of paper with Jessie's number on it, and punch in the numbers on the phone. I put it up to my ear and hear it ringing.
"It's ringing!" I said excitedly.
"Yeah, Joe. That's what usually happens when you're calling someone." said Nick. Kevin thumped him on the side of head for me.
"What was that for?" Nick whisper-yelled to Kevin.
"We're supposed to be calming him down." Kevin whispered back. I tried to forget about my brothers for a minute and pay attention to the ringing in my ear.
"Hello?" a tired and somewhat annoyed voice answered on the other line. I wonder if I woke them up. I motioned for my brothers to shut up because they were still bickering, and let them know someone answered. They stopped immediately.
"Hi" I said. "Is this Jessie?"
"Yeah"
It's her, I mouthed to my brothers while pointing at the phone. They payed closer attention.
"Oh, hi. It's me, Joe"
"Hey, Joe! What's up?"
I quickly covered the mouth piece of the phone with my left hand and whispered to my brothers, "She said what's up" then quickly moved my left hand away.
"Do it now" whispered Kevin, referring to me asking her out. Oh no...the big moment.
"Um, well, I-I was just w-wondering if maybe..." I clear my throat "...um, you wanted to h-hang out today?" I look at Nick and see he's covering his mouth with his hands and having a hard time trying not to laugh. Crap. Did I seriously just stutter?!? Now she's really gonna think I'm mental. Kevin's just smiling. Ugh, that means he wants to laugh at me but is still trying his best to be supportive. I'll hear about this later from both of them. Wait, Jessie hasn't said anything yet. That can't be good.
I start trying to cover up for it. "I mean, you know, if you can. If you're busy I completely understand. But"
"I'd love to!" said Jessie, thankfully interrupting my rant. Hold on, did she just say she'd love to?!?!?
"Really?" I said just to make sure I heard her right. Kevin and Nick are looking at me and I can tell they're dying to know what she said. "She said she'd love to," I whispered to them, again covering up the phone. The smiled and gave me a thumbs up, then left the room so I could keep talking to her by myself.
"Yeah, definitely!"
"Okay, cool. How about I pick you up at 1:00. Sound good?"
"That sounds great. I'll see you then, Joe." She cant be saying goodbye already?
"Wait!" Shoot that sounded desperate.
"What?"
I quickly think of someway to cover up for me wanting to talk to her more. "Uh," Nice cover up, Joe. Then I realize something I need to know anyway. "I don't know where you live."
"Oh yeah, I forgot." she answered. I decided to see if I could get her to laugh.
"You forgot where you live?" I said, sounding honestly confused.
She laughed. Yes! Score 1 point for Joe. "No, Joe. I forgot that you didn't know. I live at 18th Avenue Winning Street. It's the 3rd house on the left."
"Ok, thanks. You better get out of bed and start getting ready. I know girls take a while, and you only have an hour."
She pauses for a second then says, "Can you see me somehow?" sounding literally freaked out. I laugh.
"No. I knew I had woken you up from the second you said hello. You sounded really tired."
"Oh. Well you can apologize now."
"For what? I didn't do anything wrong."
"Well, usually, when you wake someone up on accident, you apologize." Jessie said matter-of-factly.
"Who said anything about an accident?" I said, hoping to scare her a little again. She doesn't say anything and I know it worked, so I laugh. "Jessie, calm down. I didn't know you were still asleep. But honestly I don't think you should be sleeping at noon anyway, so I personally think I did you a favor."
"Gee, thanks"
"Your welcome" I said with a smile on my face. "And remember, one hour. Your time starts....NOW!"
She laughs again. "Bye Joe."
"See ya"
