This Volvo B7TL doesn't seem to want to get out of its first gear very easily.

  • volvo with a voith gearbox

zf's dont whine like voiths on double deckers

  • Yes the Voith is so much nicer sound wise

  • And I thought TWM's were bad! And this is only 06 reg?

  • It was May last year so was just over a year old, to be fair they are usually in good condition up here.

  • i was on a b7 yesterday on the 997 it overheated at 120 degrees its only supposed to go to 80 the driver tried to restart it 3 times bus just cut out

  • The 997 from Walsall to Birmingham is one of my favourite routes! You get excellent views from the top deck that you wouldn't appreciate from the train. Nice buses run the route too Wright Gemini B7TLs with a plush interior.

  • SBS1938P, a B10M in Singapore with a ZF gearbox does the same. Apparently the gearbox is broken. It goes from gear 1 to 2, and doesn't lock-up. Normal B10M's lock up at gear 2, but this one revs all the way to 2000RPM and then goes up to 3 and then 4.

Ironically though, this very knackered B10M moves FAST.

  • Some ZFs can whine a helluva lot though - especially the Y/51-reg B7TLs we have in London.

  • Indeed, it sounds very much like the driver is making use of the kickdown rather than overrevving.

  • i went on CX06 EAY yesterday in Liverpool, bus was making very strange "woooosh" noises!

  • It's called kickdown, And that occurs when you floor it when moving for overtaking, ie when depressed fully it will drop a gear to build up more speed, This is just a case of a faulty gearbox.

  • It happens on all buses this its because the driver is using full throttle i was taught once that you never use it unless you need to because it causes this to happen kinda sticks in gear, what your suppose to do is use alot of throttle but not full for it to change gear smoothly

  • 7.3 litres

  • That's generally what happens with low-powered engines and heavy vehicles. The engine has to be thrashed to buggery because otherwise the revs would drop below the engine's peak power band.
