Quick action by two trainers helped save the life of a Lee's Summit high school football player in Joplin on Friday night.
Senior Jesse Wood had just scored his first touchdown in the last game of the season.
Minutes later, he had collapsed on the field and wasn't breathing, and that's when two trainers for Lee's Summit North High School sprang into action. "We definitely knew that something was wrong when he took three steps back and sort of collapsed, and that's when we took off running," trainer Angela Hockaday said.
"I just tried to talk to him, tried to get him focused on me, and it kind of deteriorated from there," trainer Steve Taylor said.
Hockaday grabbed a cardiac defibrillator while Taylor started CPR. Two Joplin doctors soon joined them.
