PlusMcCain to NAACP: More Options for StudentsMcCain to NAACP: More Options for StudentsThe Associated PressJohn McCain told the NAACP and some skeptical black voters Wednesday that he will expand education opportunities, partly through vouchers for low-income children to attend private school. (July 16)[Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] Oh naacp mccain olv ap 20080716 SENATOR JOHN MCCAIN TOOK THE STAGE AT THE NAACP CONVENTION AND RECEIVED A WARM WELCOME. MCCAIN BROUGHT A MESSAGE THAT PLANS TO CREATE STRONGER SCHOOLS FOR MINORITIES. JOHN MCCAIN/REPUBLICAN FOR PRESIDENTWe will pay bonuses to teachers who take on the challenge of working in our most troubled schools -- because we need their fine minds and good hearts to help turn those schools around. We will award bonuses as well to our highest-achieving teachers. And no longer will we measure teacher achievement by conformity to process. We will measure it by the success of their students. MCCAIN APPEALED TO THE AFRICAN AMERICANS IN ATTENDANCE BY PROMISING TO CREATE MORE INTERNET BASED LEARING TOOLS. JOHN MCCAIN/REPULICAN FOR PRESIDENTI propose to direct 500 million dollars in current federal funds to build new virtual schools, and to support the development of online courses for students. Through competitive grants, we will allocate another 250 million dollars to support state programs expanding online education opportunities MCCAIN ALSO MADE A SHARP ATTEMPT TO DRAW LINE BETWEEN HIS EDUCATION POLICY AND BARACK OBAMA'S. JOHN MCCAIN/REPUBLICAN FOR PRESIDENTSenator Obama dismissed public support for private school vouchers for low-income Americans as, "tired rhetoric about vouchers and school choice." All of that went over well with the teachers union, but where does it leave families and their children who are stuck in failing school THE NAACP IS A NON-PARTISAN ORGANIZATION BUT OBAMA HAS A STRONG HOLD ON THE BLACK VOTE. AND MANY ATTENDEES LIKE SOME OF MCCAIN'S IDEAS BUT DISSAGREE ON MANY MORE LIKE EDUCATION. Olliea Jarrett/Kansas City, KS4135 "I THINK THAT ONE OF THINGS HE NEEDS TO DO IS FOCUS ON FIXING THE PROBLEMS. I THINK THEY NEED TO START ALL OVER WITH NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND. HE WANTS TO FIX IT AND I THINK IT SHOULD BE ELIMINATED." Mark Carlson/Standup McCain ventured into what is considered Obama territory and wasn't afraid to take questions from the crowd and give answers that weren't popular. Obama is planning a trip to the Middle East and that's widely considered McCain territory. Obama will be taking his end the war in Iraq policy to the men and women who are fighting the war. Mark Carlson, AP, Cincinnati, Ohio.

  • I love John McCain. I am a Black man. He was real and humble.

  • vote for obama and you are the problem

  • I agree about the minority comment. Mccain is a fake Republican, if he would've won everyone would be like him, thinking that's the way to win. We need to flush out the Rhinos!

  • Wait and see what. I'll admit voting for Obama was a mistake. I voted for him. He wasen't a career politician, I figured he wouldn't owe the lobbyists. Figured he wouldn't be out of touch, he would know what the average person goes through. I was hoping he would bring the country together. I'm a minority myself, having a black president shows anything is possiable. I couldn't vote for Mccain, he's to libreal, if he would win, then everyone would try to be like him.

  • You should be really proud of yourself. :) When you don't confine yourself to one party, you gain a much greater understanding of what each candidate is REALLY like. And I'm not a democrat btw, I'm an Independant :D

  • wait does ncaap stand for now apes are considered people or does it stand for niggers are always causing problems ?

  • Yes jobs, but what KIND of jobs, and how much PAY?!! Will it be FAIR pay? Enough to LIVE on? Or will it be the kind of jobs and pay promised to the residents of Juarez and places in Bangladesh and Philippines? Yes, so many great promises, always.
