Here's another loose jam on Voodoo Chile Slight Return, for no particular reason other than to play it better than the last time, or at least put a little more feeling into it.

My setup (because folks often ask) is a 2x12 Crate G130C XL amp I bought used for $175. (Not the Marshall head in the background--the head's flaky from being dropped too much.) I've got the chorus and some reverb on, with the preamp distorting (preamp volume all the way, tone controls near center). Instead of the Crate's speakers, this time I am playing through the Marshall cabinent, modified to separate the two pairs of speakers for the stereo output of the Crate. I also have a Boss DS-1 which was on part of the time, at a low distortion setting (all knobs a little left of center), just to smooth things out. The guitar is an Ibanez JS series, with a Fender Lace Sensor pickup in the bass position.

I got the backing track from http://www.guitarbt.com, but I ran it through "Transcribe" so I could speed it up a little.

  • How do you like the crateG 130 XL. I have one and I thought it was messed up but its not. My Godfather left it to me like 8 yrs ago and I just took it out today. Is it really a 500 watt amp? I hooked up the vox tonelab st that I bought a few days ago. You should deffinetly check that out. The tonelab is sick and only goes for $199, I got my for $160.

  • I like the Crate, except mine has an intermittent in the chorus, which I can sometimes fix by banging on it. I doubt it's 500 watt, probably more like 50-100 watt. I have a Tonelab Vox I bought a few years ago, but mine is so noisy I found it unusable. Later I bought a DejaVibe, which has the better Univibe sound but I don't really use that either. I actually had a real Univibe I bought in the '70's, but I wore it out.
